I'm up early and we will be getting ready to attend Palm Sunday mass. I love getting the palms, but they are a reminder of two contrasting feelings for me. On Palm Sunday there is joy and we remember the triumphant entry of Jesus into Jerusalem. But very quickly everything changes and on Good Friday we remember His crucifixion. The feel of this time of the liturgical year is so different than Christmas. Christmas is filled with joy and anticipation. At Easter, within short periods of time, we feel joy then sorrow, then joy again. This sharp contrast reminds me of daily life. How quickly we can be at the top and then the tides turn. But Easter reminds me that there is always hope and that things can...and will...get better. Whether socially or financially we have all had those times where we were at the top of the hill (or at least thought we were), only to find ourselves at the bottom looking up. Easter reminds me that despite the ups and downs...there is always hope.
